27050 arrives at Edinburgh with the 13:31 Kirkaldy - Edinburgh 22/09/86. Following a major fire in the DMU depot in Ayr during 1986 ScotRail suffered a shortage of DMUs. Some were drafted in from other parts of the country and some trains were converted to loco haulage. The Edinburgh - Kirkcaldy benefitted from loco haulage with the traction being Class 27 and the carriages were quickly brough back into service. Many still had the condemed markings hastily covered over and were still visible.
